Pikesville Bus Collision Results in 28 Injuries

A bus accident in Pikesville, a suburb of Baltimore, occurred on Wednesday night, resulting in injuries to at least 28 individuals. The incident was classified as a mass casualty event by the Baltimore County Fire Department.

The crash involved a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus, which collided with multiple vehicles before ultimately crashing into a building located at 500 West Franklin Street. Initial reports indicate that the bus first hit a Lexus and then a Nissan.

One person is reported to be in critical condition, while the bus driver was safely extricated from the vehicle. All injured parties were promptly transported to a local hospital for medical attention.

Kevin Cartwright, communications director for the Baltimore City Fire Department, confirmed that the response was elevated to a level one mass casualty event due to the number of injuries. Emergency crews were quick to respond, assessing the situation and providing necessary care.

The structural integrity of the four-story apartment building that was impacted by the crash was evaluated by the special rescue operations team from the Baltimore City Fire Department. They determined that while the building's support beams remained intact, the first floor would be temporarily condemned.

Authorities are advising motorists to avoid the area as emergency services continue their work. An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway, with MTA Police, Baltimore City Fire Department, and building inspectors present at the scene.
