PIKESVILLE, Md. -- A serious accident involving a Maryland Transit Administration bus occurred on Wednesday evening, resulting in injuries to over 30 individuals.
The incident took place shortly before 6 p.m. ET in Pikesville, situated just northwest of Baltimore. According to the Baltimore County Police Department, the bus struck several vehicles before ultimately crashing into a nearby building.
Emergency responders transported the bus driver to a hospital, where he is reported to be in critical condition. In total, 36 people were taken to local hospitals for treatment following the crash.
Authorities confirmed that 12 vehicles were involved in the incident, including one that overturned. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore expressed his concern and gratitude for the first responders in a social media post, stating, "We are deeply grateful for our first responders who acted with speed and skill to ensure the safety of our neighbors." He also noted that his office is coordinating with local officials to provide necessary support.
