Pikesville Bus Crash Results in 28 Injuries, One Critical

A bus crash in Pikesville, a Baltimore suburb, resulted in injuries to at least 28 individuals on Wednesday night. The incident, which occurred around 8 p.m., involved a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus that collided with multiple vehicles before crashing into a building.

The Baltimore County Fire Department classified the situation as a mass casualty incident due to the high number of injured individuals. Reports indicate that one person is in critical condition following the crash.

According to Jerimiah Moerke, a spokesperson for the MTA, the bus first struck a Lexus and then a Nissan before coming to a stop against a building located at 500 West Franklin Street. Emergency responders from the Baltimore City Fire Department worked diligently to extract the bus driver from the vehicle.

Kevin Cartwright, the communications director for the Baltimore City Fire Department, noted that the incident was escalated to a level one mass casualty event. All injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The special rescue operations team from the Baltimore City Fire Department assessed the four-story apartment building that was impacted and confirmed that the structural integrity of the support beams remained intact. However, the first floor of the building has been temporarily condemned.

Authorities are currently advising motorists to avoid the area as emergency crews continue their work. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with MTA Police, Baltimore City Fire Department, and building inspectors present at the scene.
