Pikesville Collision Involving MTA Bus Leaves 36 Injured

PIKESVILLE, Md. — A major accident occurred in Pikesville on Wednesday evening, involving an MTA bus that collided with several vehicles, leading to injuries for 36 individuals, including the bus driver, who is reported to be in critical condition.

The incident took place around 6 p.m. in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road. Police reported that the bus was traveling southbound when it struck multiple vehicles before veering off course and crashing into a FedEx building.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with one local business owner, Bernie Troutner, recalling the sound of two loud booms before he rushed outside to capture the aftermath on his phone. His footage depicted an extensive emergency response, including on-site triage for the injured.

Yehoshya Bier, a personal injury attorney in the area, noted the severity of the crash, stating, "I've been handling accidents in Baltimore for probably 12 years, and I've never seen carnage like this right here in our backyard."

Authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of the crash, but it has sparked concerns among local residents regarding traffic safety along that stretch of road. Dan Brody, President of the Pikesville Improvement Corporation, expressed worries about pedestrian and driver safety, noting that minor accidents are frequent in the area.

Brody and Vice President Tom Fekete have been advocating for improvements to traffic safety for years, emphasizing the need to reduce speed limits and enhance crosswalk safety. They have been in discussions with the State Highway Administration about potential changes to the corridor.

Following the crash, a significant emergency response was initiated, with 15 ambulances, including units from Howard and Anne Arundel counties, dispatched to transport the injured to local hospitals. BGE also responded to reports of downed power lines in the vicinity.

Both Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones released statements expressing their support for the victims and gratitude for the first responders. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
