Pittsburgh Public Schools has officially appointed Dr. Theodore Thompson III as its new deputy superintendent, a decision made during the board's legislative meeting on July 22.
In his new role, Dr. Thompson will collaborate closely with the Superintendent to oversee the District's academic and operational divisions.
Dr. Thompson brings over 25 years of educational experience to this position. Prior to joining Pittsburgh, he served as the Executive Director of Secondary Schools for Denver Public Schools, where he was responsible for supporting 33 secondary schools that catered to more than 29,000 students.
His extensive career includes leadership roles in several prominent school districts, including Baltimore City Public Schools, the District of Columbia Public Schools, the School District of Philadelphia, and Syracuse City School District.
Superintendent Dr. Wayne N. Walters expressed his enthusiasm for Dr. Thompson's appointment, highlighting his qualifications and commitment to educational excellence. “Dr. Thompson is an accomplished educational leader with extensive experience leading large urban school systems and improving outcomes for students,” Walters stated. “I am excited to welcome him to the Pittsburgh Public Schools family.”
Dr. Thompson is set to begin his duties on August 3. He expressed his eagerness to work with the district's leadership, educators, and community partners to enhance the educational experience for all students. “I am honored to join Pittsburgh Public Schools and look forward to partnering with Dr. Walters and our Board of Directors,” he said.
