Police Maintain Order in Fells Point During Sail250 Weekend Kickoff

BALTIMORE — The first night of Sail250 in Fells Point was marked by a significant police presence, ensuring a calm atmosphere as the event commenced. This weekend, which celebrates tall ships and military vessels, attracted large crowds to Baltimore's waterfront.

After recent weekends marred by violence and disorder, the Baltimore Police Department deployed additional officers throughout the area from Friday night into early Saturday morning. According to a police spokesperson, there were no major incidents reported during the event's opening night.

The increased law enforcement presence comes in response to concerns from residents and business owners about open drinking and illegal alcohol sales that have occurred without sufficient enforcement in recent weeks. Despite the influx of visitors, police reported issuing only seven citations over the last two weekends, including three for disorderly conduct and others related to open containers and cannabis use.

Prior to Sail250, the Baltimore Police announced enhanced security measures and increased patrols to ensure public safety during the weeklong celebration. Officers were observed stationed throughout Fells Point, monitoring the crowds as they enjoyed the festivities.

As the weekend continues, authorities are hopeful that the proactive measures will maintain order and allow residents and visitors to enjoy the celebrations peacefully.
