Baltimore police have released a new image as part of their ongoing investigation into a triple shooting that occurred in Federal Hill, resulting in the death of 41-year-old Curtis Knox, a former substitute teacher for Baltimore City Public Schools.
The shooting took place on June 6 at approximately 3 a.m. on South Hanover Street at West Hamburg Street. In the aftermath, two men sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while Knox succumbed to his wounds.
On Monday, the police shared the image of an unidentified individual via their social media platform, appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the person. While the police did not clarify the individual's potential connection to the case, they emphasized the importance of finding this person.
According to reports, Knox was an alumnus of Morgan State University. A business owner in the area provided surveillance footage to local news outlets, depicting one of the shooting victims attempting to flee after being shot.
Sgt. Betsy Smith, a spokesperson for the National Police Association, highlighted the significance of releasing photos in such investigations. “Somebody knows something. And so to release these photographs is so critical to the detectives being able to identify somebody who was involved or somebody who knows somebody who was involved,” Smith stated.
As the investigation continues, police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting. Smith noted that detectives are likely interviewing witnesses and analyzing physical evidence, which can be extensive in shooting cases. “A shooting like this, there’s going to be plenty of physical evidence, and that’s sometimes what takes so long because if you have shell casings, things like that, going over that physical evidence is also critically important,” she added.
Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the identity of the individual in the released photo to contact Baltimore police detectives at 410-396-2100 or submit tips anonymously to Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
