Professor Trash Wheel Marks 10 Years with New Barge in Baltimore Harbor

BALTIMORE — The iconic Professor Trash Wheel has officially resumed her duties in the Baltimore Harbor after an extended hiatus for repairs.

Escorted by Katie Pumphrey, the trash-collecting vessel returned to her designated location on Boston Street in Canton. The recent refurbishment included a complete replacement of her aging barge, which had shown signs of significant wear.

Adam Lindquist of the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore shared insights on the upgrades. "The old barge was getting kind of rusty," he noted. "We were getting a little bit worried about how good it was for being on the water. So we've actually completely changed that out with a brand new barge. So Professor is now floating higher in the water and will do an even better job of pulling trash out of the water."

This marks the tenth anniversary of Professor Trash Wheel's commitment to keeping the harbor clean. The overhaul was made possible in part by funding from the Baltimore Ravens, ensuring she is equipped for another decade of service.
