Prosecutors React to Leak of Witness Identity in Baltimore Murder-for-Hire Case

Baltimore's prosecutors are taking swift action following the unauthorized release of documents that identified a key witness in an ongoing murder-for-hire trial. The documents revealed the identity of Keith Ambush, a local rapper known as YNE Sosa, who was set to testify against two men accused of orchestrating a series of violent crimes.

This week, the sensitive information surfaced in a YouTube video that quickly gained traction, amassing over 50,000 views and sparking numerous social media discussions. Some users criticized Ambush, labeling him a 'snitch' for cooperating with authorities.

In response to the leak, city prosecutors filed a motion for an emergency hearing to investigate how the confidential information was disclosed. Judge Robert Taylor Jr. has agreed to hold a hearing on the matter, which is set for Friday morning.

Assistant State’s Attorney Samantha Mildenberg noted in court documents that physical copies of the protected material were not distributed by the state, indicating that the only copies shared were with the defense attorneys for the accused, Keith Brian Russell and Cornell Moore.

Ambush's cooperation is part of a federal investigation dubbed 'Fallen Angel,' which is linked to a murder-for-hire scheme involving up to 19 shootings and homicides between 2020 and 2022. Both Russell and Moore, aged 40, are facing serious charges in connection with this case, which had previously been delayed due to scheduling conflicts in the court.

Among the cases tied to the defendants is the tragic May 2022 murder of Yahmell Montague and his fiancée, Angel Smith, who was pregnant at the time. The baby survived the incident.

The leaked documents highlight ongoing challenges in witness protection, even as overall violence in Baltimore has reportedly decreased. Prosecutors had previously warned that disclosing the identities of witnesses could put them at significant risk.

Ambush, 30, is currently detained in Alabama awaiting trial for an unrelated drug charge. His attorney, Whitney Tillman, declined to comment on the matter. The YouTube video that spread the leaked documents features commentary from Sean Mosely, a Baltimore native, who criticized Ambush's cooperation while also expressing concerns about the government's judicial practices.
