BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. — In a competitive Democratic primary for the position of State's Attorney in Baltimore County, Sarah David has emerged as the frontrunner, defeating incumbent Scott Shellenberger and fellow candidate Lauren Lipscomb.
As of the latest unofficial results, with all 258 precincts reporting on election day, David has garnered 28,132 votes, representing 52.46% of the total. Shellenberger trails with 14,460 votes (26.97%), while Lipscomb has received 11,033 votes (20.57%). It is important to note that the counting of mail-in ballots is still ongoing, which could impact the final results.
David's background includes her recent role as deputy state prosecutor within the Maryland Office of the State Prosecutor, a position she has held since January 2020. She initially joined the office in January 2018 as a Senior Assistant State Prosecutor, where she managed significant cases involving corruption and police misconduct.
Her experience extends beyond the prosecutor's office; David has served as Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the Judicial Proceedings Committee in the Maryland State Senate, focusing on various legislative matters, and she has worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Baltimore City, handling complex prosecutions.
In addition to her legal career, David is actively involved in the community as the president of the Board of Directors for the Women's Law Center of Maryland and as a board member of the Macks Jewish Connection Network.
Throughout her campaign, David has emphasized her commitment to public safety, addressing violent crime, supporting victims of sexual assault, and providing resources for juvenile crime accountability.
If the current lead holds after all ballots are counted, Sarah David will be poised to take office as the next State's Attorney for Baltimore County.
