A school bus transporting students from the Maryland School for the Blind collided with a pharmacy in Parkville on Tuesday afternoon, following a traffic incident involving another vehicle.
According to the Baltimore County Police, the crash occurred when a driver in a 2017 Ford Focus veered into the northbound lane of Harford Road, cutting off the bus. It remains unclear whether the Focus directly struck the bus; however, it did collide with a 2014 Nissan Altima.
As a result of the collision, the school bus lost control and crashed through the storefront of a pharmacy located in the 8700 block of Harford Road. The incident resulted in minor injuries for two adults and one child, while the bus driver, an additional adult, and a child were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Two other children from the bus, along with eight other individuals involved in the crash, received treatment at the scene but declined to go to the hospital.
A passenger in the Altima, 20-year-old Kylee Michael from Perry Hall, recounted the chaotic moments leading up to the crash. She described sitting at a red light when their vehicle was struck multiple times, likening the experience to a pileup. After exiting her car, she encountered the driver of the Focus, who was reportedly disoriented and missing a shoe, asking to use Michael's phone to call her fiancé.
In her conversation, the woman acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating she had been involved in a significant accident with a school bus.
The Baltimore City Public Schools owns the bus, which was in use for the Maryland School for the Blind. Details about the bus's route or destination remain unclear, and both the school and the Baltimore County Public Schools have opted not to comment on the incident.
The Baltimore County Police Department's crash team is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
