Two individuals lost their lives, and five others were injured in a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday evening during the Bite of Seattle food festival, held at the Seattle Center near the Space Needle.
The gunfire erupted around 6 p.m., leading to a swift response from police and emergency services, which began evacuating the area. Authorities have urged the public to steer clear of the vicinity as they conduct their investigation.
According to Harborview Medical Center, four victims were admitted, including a toddler, a 23-year-old man, and two adult women. One of the patients is reported to be in critical condition.
Witness Estan Wakonabo recounted the chaotic scene, describing how he and his girlfriend were waiting in line for a photo booth when they were suddenly pushed from behind. As they turned to see people fleeing, Wakonabo heard the sound of gunfire.
“Once I heard a ‘pop, pop, pop,’ that’s when I knew it was a shooter,” he said. After ensuring his girlfriend was safe, he returned to the area and saw multiple victims on the ground.
The Bite of Seattle festival, which has been a staple event since 1982, attracts approximately 350,000 attendees over three days, celebrating food, drink, and community.
