Garza expressed pride in the community's quick response, stating that many people prioritized helping the victims over their own safety.
The plane had departed from San José del Cabo, Mexico, earlier that evening and was en route to Austin, Texas, before being diverted to Laredo. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident, with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) also set to conduct a thorough examination of the crash site.
Authorities confirmed that five police officers sustained injuries while participating in the rescue efforts and were later treated at a local hospital. Investigators are expected to arrive at the crash location later for further analysis.
