State's Attorney Reverses Course on Adnan Syed's Conviction

Baltimore State’s Attorney Ivan Bates has officially decided to withdraw a motion aimed at overturning the conviction of Adnan Syed, whose case gained international notoriety following the hit podcast "Serial".

Bates detailed his rationale in an 88-page memorandum submitted late Tuesday, just ahead of a crucial hearing regarding Syed's legal status. This decision marks a significant departure from the stance taken by former State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who had previously sought to have Syed’s conviction dismissed.

In his memo, Bates criticized the earlier motion as containing "false and misleading statements" that, in his view, compromised the integrity of the judicial process.
