A student was taken into custody following a stabbing incident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Roye-Williams Elementary School in Harford County.

Authorities responded to the school shortly after 3:30 p.m. when reports of the assault emerged, coinciding with the end of the school day. The two injured staff members were transported to a local hospital and have since been discharged.

The altercation involved the student and two employees, with no other students harmed during the incident. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office reported that the student was quickly apprehended after the event.

In a statement, Sheriff Jeff Gahler emphasized the priority of safety for students and staff, acknowledging the rapid response of school personnel and law enforcement that helped contain the situation. He expressed gratitude for the actions taken by the school staff and the School Resource Officer.

Investigators from the sheriff's office are collaborating with the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services and the Harford County state’s attorney’s office to assess the next steps in the case. Details regarding the student involved have not been disclosed.

Roye-Williams Elementary School, located in Havre de Grace, serves approximately 443 students from prekindergarten through fifth grade, according to the school’s website.
