A man was taken into custody on Monday morning after allegedly robbing a bank at gunpoint in Baltimore.
The incident occurred in the 4800 block of Eastern Avenue, where the suspect, dressed entirely in black and armed with a shotgun, reportedly assaulted a customer before fleeing with a significant amount of cash.
Law enforcement responded swiftly, with police helicopters and the Baltimore Police Department's Regional Auto Theft Task Force (RATT) tracking the suspect's vehicle. After a brief pursuit along I-895, authorities successfully apprehended the individual without further incident.
In a related note, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and Maryland Governor Wes Moore highlighted the city's ongoing decline in violent crime during a press conference on the same day. They reported that Baltimore has seen its fewest homicides through May since at least 1970, with 40 recorded homicides this year, compared to 52 at the same time in 2022.
Additionally, non-fatal shootings have decreased, with 120 incidents reported in 2026, one less than the previous year. Mayor Scott attributed these positive trends to collaborative efforts among various agencies and community members.
Governor Moore emphasized the state's investment in law enforcement and crime prevention, noting a significant drop in violent crime statistics since he took office. He stated that between 2022 and 2025, Baltimore experienced a 58% reduction in homicides and a 52% decrease in non-fatal shootings.
Despite these improvements, both officials acknowledged the ongoing challenges of gun violence in the city and reiterated their commitment to enhancing public safety through continued investment and partnership.
