Montgomery County police have announced the arrest of a man implicated in a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in Gaithersburg.
Josue David Carranza Castellion, 26, was taken into custody at Newark International Airport as he attempted to board a flight to Honduras.
The incident in question took place on June 17, around 4:47 a.m., at the intersection of Muddy Branch Road and West Diamond Avenue. Officers responded to reports of a collision at that location.
Investigations revealed that Carranza Castellion was driving north on Muddy Branch Road when his vehicle veered off the roadway, crossed into a grassy median, and struck 56-year-old Brian Roy Longaberger. Tragically, Longaberger succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Later that day, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Gaithersburg City Police located Carranza Castellion’s vehicle, a gray 2011 Honda CR-V, which had noticeable front-end damage, near the site of the crash.
Following the identification of Carranza Castellion as a suspect, police secured an arrest warrant. He faces charges of manslaughter by vehicle and failure to remain at the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
Currently, Carranza Castellion is being held in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and is awaiting extradition to Maryland.
