A 26-year-old man has been apprehended in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in Gaithersburg earlier this week. Josue David Carranza Castellon was arrested on Thursday at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey while trying to catch a flight to Honduras, according to Montgomery County Police.
The incident took place around 5 a.m. on Wednesday when Carranza Castellon, driving a Honda CR-V, struck 56-year-old Brian Roy Longaberger, who was located in a grassy median at the time. Longaberger was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities located the damaged SUV about six and a half hours after the collision. Carranza Castellon is facing serious charges, including manslaughter by vehicle and failure to remain at the scene of an accident that resulted in death.
Currently, he is being held in Elizabeth, New Jersey, as he awaits extradition to Montgomery County. As of Friday afternoon, it was not clear whether Carranza Castellon had secured legal representation.
