A tanker truck transporting 7,500 gallons of diesel fuel was involved in an accident in South Baltimore during the early hours of Friday morning.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on South Hanover Street, near Washburn Avenue, where the truck collided with two parked vehicles before coming to a stop on the sidewalk.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash. However, approximately 20 gallons of diesel fuel leaked from the truck, prompting authorities to shut down the block for cleanup.
The Baltimore City Fire Department, along with the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), responded to the scene to manage the spill. A crew successfully contained the leak, and the spilled fuel was transferred to another tanker truck.
The damaged vehicle, owned by Power Transportation Systems, a freight carrier based in Gaithersburg, Maryland, was prepared for towing after the incident.
Initially, police arrested the 42-year-old driver after he exhibited signs of impaired driving. However, following further investigation, authorities determined that he was not under the influence, and he was subsequently released.
Details surrounding the cause of the accident remain unclear as the investigation is ongoing.
