Kaylee Hottle, a 19-year-old actress recognized for her role as Jia in the "Godzilla" film series, died in a car accident early Tuesday morning in Frederick County, Maryland.
According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 2:52 a.m. when a 19-year-old male driver lost control of a 1995 Honda Accord on Windsor Road in Ijamsville. The vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a culvert. Investigators indicated that speeding may have contributed to the crash.
Hottle was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to the hospital, while another passenger declined medical treatment.
In the wake of her passing, Hottle's parents, Joshua and Ketsi Hottle, shared emotional tributes on social media, expressing their grief in American Sign Language. Her father remarked on the painful journey he had to make from Texas to Maryland, while her mother honored her daughter, stating, "Privilege to be your mom, Kaylee Hottle."
Born in Atlanta to a family with a rich history of deafness, Hottle was celebrated for her role in the 2021 film "Godzilla vs. Kong" and the upcoming "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire." She had also appeared in various commercials and television series.
The Texas School for the Deaf, where Hottle was a student, released a statement mourning her loss. The school expressed its condolences to her family, friends, and classmates, acknowledging the profound impact Hottle had on those around her.
