A 16-year-old male was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, charged with the shooting deaths of two siblings, a 15-year-old girl and her 9-year-old brother, in Gwynn Oak earlier this month. The Baltimore County Police announced the arrest during a press conference on Wednesday evening.
According to Police Chief Robert McCullough, the suspect, who resides in West Baltimore, has been charged as an adult with the homicides of Giovanna Myrie and Steve Allen. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was acquainted with the victims.
The tragic incident occurred on July 7, when both children were found dead from gunshot wounds inside their home. Their parents had called 911 to report the situation around 7:20 p.m.
McCullough made the announcement just before a town hall meeting in Randallstown, following a funeral Mass for the siblings held the previous day at St. Casimir Church in Baltimore. He stated that the suspect's bail was denied during a hearing on Wednesday.
While addressing reporters, McCullough expressed concern over the nature of the crime, noting that such violence is rare in the community. He emphasized the importance of building a strong case, especially given the suspect's age.
Councilman Julian Jones also commented on the incident, expressing his shock that a teenager possessed a firearm and was involved in such a violent act. He described the situation as a deeply saddening reflection of broader societal issues.
McCullough remarked on the horror of the crime, stating, “This is something that’s horrific. It’s tragic.”
