Teen Leads Group Charged in Violent Baltimore Crime Wave

BALTIMORE — Authorities have charged a group of five juveniles and three adults, including a 17-year-old, in connection with a series of violent crimes throughout Baltimore.

The young suspect is facing charges in 23 different cases, including first-degree murder, carjacking, and armed robbery. The crew is believed to be responsible for numerous carjackings and the fatal shooting of 38-year-old Jamal Ferguson.

The adults involved in the case are identified as Dash Hayne, 22; Colekela Hamilton, 18; and Mekhi Clark, 21.

According to charging documents, the group exhibited a consistent pattern during their criminal activities. They would typically dress in black clothing and masks, often brandishing firearms.

On April 23, an incident unfolded in the Bolton Hill neighborhood when a man approached his vehicle. He was confronted by four individuals who emerged from a white sedan, brandishing handguns and demanding his keys while another suspect smashed his iPhone. Following this, they fled in the sedan.

Within 20 minutes, police received reports of two similar incidents in close proximity, with one victim recalling a suspect threatening to shoot him.

The crime spree escalated until May 7, when Ferguson was targeted in the 4400 block of Fairview Avenue. Reports indicate that multiple suspects approached his vehicle, ordering him out at gunpoint. As he attempted to escape, they fired into his car, fatally wounding him.

The 17-year-old faces serious charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and various assault and gun-related offenses. Investigators have linked this group to at least 22 additional incidents of carjacking or robbery occurring between April 23 and May 24.

Law enforcement utilized surveillance footage, GPS tracking, cellphone data, and DNA evidence to identify the suspects involved in these violent acts.
