TOWSON, Md. — A teenager involved in a shooting incident in Rodgers Forge has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. Kai Wilson, 17, was sentenced on Monday after being charged in connection with the September 2024 shooting that critically injured a local youth sports coach.
According to the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office, Wilson received a 40-year sentence, with 25 years to be served after 15 years were suspended. The incident occurred in the 400 block of Dunkirk Road when Wilson and another teen, Kamar Thompson, attempted to rob the victim, Mark McKenzie.
McKenzie sustained serious injuries during the attack, requiring multiple surgeries to repair damage to his liver and gallbladder. He spent 47 days in the hospital recovering from his injuries.
Both Wilson and Thompson were arrested in October 2024 and charged as adults. In April 2025, they pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder and firearm offenses.
Following his prison term, Wilson will be subject to five years of probation. Thompson is still awaiting sentencing, with a motion hearing scheduled for July 30.
