A 16-year-old boy, Colt Gray, has entered a guilty plea to 55 counts connected to a tragic shooting incident that occurred nearly two years ago at Apalachee High School in Georgia.
The plea was submitted on Friday, with Gray opting not to negotiate a plea deal with prosecutors. Initially, he had pleaded not guilty to the charges stemming from the September 4, 2024, shooting that resulted in the deaths of two teachers and two students, while injuring several others. The high school is located approximately 45 miles northeast of Atlanta.
Barrow County Superior Court Judge Nicholas Primm is set to hear arguments from both the prosecution and defense regarding the case's details, supporting evidence, and sentencing recommendations before determining the appropriate sentence for Gray.
Gray's trial was slated to begin in mid-October in Columbia County, roughly 100 miles from the shooting site, following a defense motion that successfully sought a change of venue.
In a related case, Gray's father, Colin Gray, was convicted in March on various charges, including second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. He is scheduled to be sentenced next week for allegedly providing his son with the assault-style rifle used in the school shooting.
The victims of the shooting included teachers Richard “Ricky” Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53, along with students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14 years old. In addition to the fatalities, another teacher and eight students sustained injuries, with seven of them being shot.
