A vintage shop in Towson, Rosebud Retro, is determined to rebuild after suffering extensive damage from an arson attack earlier this month. Trevor Brake, who co-owns the store with his siblings, opened Rosebud Retro in February, drawn by the building's large windows that showcase the shop's unique offerings.
However, one of those windows is now boarded up following a violent incident on July 8, when a man threw a brick through it and ignited an explosion inside the store. Surveillance footage captured the suspect, later identified as 38-year-old Robert Dixon, preparing for the attack by retrieving a gas can from his vehicle.
According to court documents, Dixon smashed the window, poured gasoline on the store's floor, and ignited it, causing an explosion that shattered one of the oversized windows. An eyewitness reported the incident to Baltimore County Police, who found evidence linking Dixon to the crime.
Dixon was arrested the following night after being spotted wearing the same clothing as in the surveillance footage. He now faces charges of second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, and destruction of property valued over $1,000. He is currently being held without bond.
Brake estimated the damages to be around $250,000, with the fire activating the store's sprinklers and damaging many vintage items. He emphasized the challenges of restoring the clothing, which requires special care due to its older fabrics.
Despite the setback, Brake expressed optimism about the future of Rosebud Retro. He has received support from the community, local businesses, and the Towson Chamber of Commerce. Brake and his team are working on repairs and enhancements to the shop, aiming to reopen in two to three weeks.
“We ain’t going nowhere,” Brake stated on social media, promising customers an even better experience upon their return.
