Baltimore Police have released the identities of two teenagers who were fatally shot in the Mosher neighborhood of West Baltimore earlier this week. The victims, Aiden Houchens, 18, and Dakaun Johnson, 19, were involved in the incident that took place on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers responded to a shooting report around 3:20 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Lanvale Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Johnson deceased at the scene. Houchens was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
Following the shooting, police apprehended an individual after a chase; however, they later clarified that this person is no longer considered a suspect. The investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
In a broader context, police statistics indicate that homicides in Baltimore have decreased compared to the same period last year. As of now, there have been 53 homicides recorded in 2026, down from 77 during the same timeframe in 2025. Nonetheless, the number of nonfatal shootings remains consistent, with 174 reported this year compared to 175 last year.
