The United States has ramped up its military operations against Iran, executing strikes that have reached areas close to Tehran for the first time in this latest wave of conflict. Early Thursday, American forces targeted locations further north, indicating a significant escalation in their military campaign.
In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone attacks aimed at U.S. allies in the region, including Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait. Iranian officials warned that these retaliatory actions could expand if the U.S. continues its military aggression.
Recent U.S. strikes have reportedly resulted in over 35 fatalities and more than 300 injuries among Iranian forces, according to state media. The attacks have not only targeted Tehran but also Semnan province, known for its ballistic missile and space program, as well as several other provinces across Iran.
On Wednesday, the U.S. military resumed strikes during daylight hours, targeting strategic sites such as Greater Tunb Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, U.S. forces fired upon the Curacao-flagged oil tanker, Belma, which was allegedly attempting to breach the naval blockade imposed on Iran.
Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, a spokesperson for Iran’s military, issued a stark warning, stating that any further U.S. attacks on Iranian infrastructure would provoke widespread retaliation, threatening to “crush” regional infrastructure under the military might of Iran.
The ongoing conflict has severely strained the interim agreements aimed at de-escalating tensions, with both sides engaging in a series of back-and-forth strikes. This escalation raises concerns about a potential return to all-out war in the region.
As the situation develops, the U.S. has threatened to forcibly reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route, but experts caution that such action would require a substantial military presence on the ground.
In the midst of these hostilities, U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that a peace deal with Iran remains possible, despite the ongoing violence. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts to mediate the conflict continue, though challenges persist in bringing both parties to the negotiating table.
