U.S. Troops Killed in Missile and Drone Attack in Jordan

Two U.S. service members were killed and one is currently missing following missile and drone strikes on a military base in Jordan on July 17, as reported by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

In addition to the fatalities, four other service members were hospitalized but have since been released. Others who sustained minor injuries have returned to their duties.

CENTCOM has stated that the names of the deceased will not be disclosed until their families have been informed.

The attacks coincide with escalating tensions in the region, particularly after Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, issued a warning regarding “unforgettable lessons” should the U.S. persist in its military actions. This surge in hostilities follows the breakdown of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

As part of its ongoing military operations, the U.S. has been active in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route that facilitates the transportation of over 20% of the world’s oil supply. Despite U.S. strikes that have reportedly weakened Iran's military, the country continues to maintain control over this vital shipping lane, which has been a source of frustration for U.S. leadership.

Additionally, CENTCOM confirmed that it has conducted missile strikes on Iranian targets for the seventh consecutive day, aiming to further diminish Iran's military capabilities.
