UMD Nursing School Secures $6 Million in Grants to Enhance Nursing Workforce

The University of Maryland's School of Nursing has been awarded $6 million in grants aimed at enhancing the nursing workforce in Maryland.

This funding will focus on increasing student enrollment, improving educational resources, and preparing faculty members, among other initiatives.

With this financial support, the school plans to train over 500 nursing instructors, which is expected to positively impact thousands of nursing students statewide.

Susan Bindon, the associate dean for faculty development at the School of Nursing, emphasized the importance of this funding in addressing the ongoing nursing shortage across the country. She noted that many prospective nursing students have been turned away from programs due to a lack of qualified faculty.

“This is a direct impact: more faculty means more students in clinical settings,” Bindon stated.

Maryland stands out as the only state in the nation with access to this type of resource, and the nursing school intends to utilize it promptly to meet the growing demand for healthcare professionals.
