Victims Identified in Gwynn Oak Shooting of Siblings

Authorities in Baltimore County have identified the victims of a tragic shooting that occurred earlier this week in Gwynn Oak. The victims, 9-year-old Steve Allen and 15-year-old Giovanna Myrie, were found dead inside their home on the 6100 block of Talles Road.

The incident, which took place on Tuesday evening, has left both police and local residents in shock. Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough expressed his disbelief during a news conference, stating, "I've seen a lot of things in my career, but this is horrific, it's tragic, and something that doesn't happen in this community."

Witnesses described the area as typically quiet, with many families and children frequently walking through the neighborhood. Resident Shelly Roscoe noted the alarming nature of the incident, highlighting the community's usual tranquility.

Giovanna Myrie was a student at Western High School, where the loss of her and her brother has deeply affected classmates and staff. The school released a statement offering condolences and support services for those impacted, while also respecting the family's request for privacy during this difficult time.

Initially, a memorial was planned outside the school, but it was canceled at the family's request. The children's parents reportedly returned home around 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday to discover the tragedy.

Chief McCullough indicated that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, although he has not confirmed if anyone else was present in the home at the time. A neighbor reported hearing screams that evening, and while some nearby residents with security cameras did not capture unusual activity, investigators are actively pursuing leads to identify a suspect.

The victims' bodies have been sent to the chief medical examiner's office for autopsies. Baltimore County Police are urging anyone with information to come forward, offering a $2,000 reward for details leading to an arrest and conviction.
