CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — Authorities have arrested a 57-year-old Waldorf man, Sir Leander Evans Gamble, following an alleged assault involving a firearm and the discovery of neglected animals at his property.

On July 3, deputies from the Charles County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of an assault in the 10000 block of Penjack Place. Upon arrival, investigators learned that Gamble had confronted three individuals renting a trailer on his land.

According to the police report, Gamble retrieved a firearm from his home during the confrontation, aiming it at the victims and threatening them. Officers apprehended Gamble at the scene.

Following his arrest, law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the property, leading to the recovery of six handguns. Additionally, Charles County Animal Control was called to the scene after officers discovered several neglected animals.

The animals found included an alligator, a caiman, a snake, an emu, dogs, cats, and pigs. Animal Control officials have stated they will continue to investigate the welfare of these animals.

Gamble has been charged with aggravated assault, with further charges expected as the investigation unfolds. He is currently being held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond.
