Windsor Mill Man Arrested After Gunfire and Police Chase in Baltimore

Authorities arrested a 27-year-old man from Windsor Mill after a police pursuit that stemmed from gunfire in west Baltimore last week. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on July 8, when two separate ShotSpotter alerts indicated that 11 and 20 rounds were fired near the 1600 block of Eutaw Place, close to the Pedestal Gardens housing complex.

Upon investigation, officers discovered shell casings for both a handgun and a rifle, suggesting that multiple firearms were involved in the shooting. Witnesses reported seeing a blue four-door Honda Accord fleeing the scene shortly after the gunfire.

Officers later identified Kavonye Herring as the driver of the suspect vehicle. When police located the Honda Accord traveling northbound on Greenspring Avenue, they learned it had been reported stolen from Anne Arundel County. Attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful, as Herring accelerated away, running several red lights and nearly colliding with another car.

In the 2200 block of Sulgrave Avenue, Herring and three other occupants exited the car and fled on foot. Some of them were seen carrying handguns as they escaped. The Baltimore Police Department's helicopter assisted in tracking Herring, using infrared technology to locate him hiding in bushes.

When approached by a detective, Herring complied with commands and admitted that the keys to the stolen vehicle were still inside it, indicating he had been driving the car prior to fleeing. Herring's driver's license was found to be suspended, and he was subsequently issued multiple traffic citations.

He faces charges for unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, theft of a vehicle valued between $1,500 and $25,000, and unauthorized removal of a motor vehicle.
