Job Description Summary
Organization's Summary Statement:The Department of Nutrition and Food Science (NFSC) at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Research Professor. The position is a 9-month, 100% research appointment. The anticipated start date is August 9, 2027.
Responsibilities: Collaborate with NFSC faculty to develop, coordinate, and implement research projects aligned with the Department's strategic areas of excellence; assist in preparing research proposals, reports, and other scholarly work; identify opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaborations; oversee the operation, maintenance, scheduling, and user training for departmental shared research equipment and laboratory facilities; develop and implement standard operating procedures to ensure safe, effective equipment use; provide technical expertise and consultation to faculty, staff, and students using shared instrumentation; train and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and research personnel in laboratory methods, research techniques, and instrumentation; maintain records of equipment usage, maintenance, and research activities; assist with acquiring new research equipment and infrastructure; and perform other duties that enhance the quality, productivity, and impact of the Department's research programs.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in nutrition, food science, or a closely related discipline; record of research activity and of securing external funding; prior teaching experience and demonstrated teaching excellence at an institution of higher education; ability to advise undergraduate and graduate students; effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Demands: Able to work in the lab and use lab equipment.

● Experience in Nutrition/Food Science education that includes laboratory teaching, conducting and managing learning experiences, and evaluating student achievement
● 5+ years of experience in similar roles
● Experience training and mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate levels
