Duties

Internship Opportunities: 

Risk Management Internship: 

To provide hands-on, educational experience supporting the Risk Management Division in day-to-day functions related to workplace injury claims, liability incidents and safety initiatives. Interns are given opportunities to gain experience and knowledge in workers’ compensation, general liability, safety compliance processes and standard office procedures. Interns will also gain professional experience, build meaningful connections and contribute to a team that values safety, service, and innovation.

Describe the Intern's principal learning assignments and/or projects.  What will the Intern learn about, be exposed to, or assist with?

Intern will assist in reviewing root cause analysis related to workers’ compensation and liability claim files and review incident and accident reports to identify patterns of organizational risk. Interns will interpret departmental procedure manuals and standard operating procedures regarding special claims investigative strategies and medical billing statistical analysis regarding unique claims handling practices. Interns will also have an opportunity to create departmental correspondences and communicate with departmental staff to assist with associated handling of tasks.

Describe what the Intern will achieve through this experience:

The Intern will develop an understanding of the workers compensation claim process along with the ability to apply I/O psychology principles to real-world risk and claims challenges. In addition, the Intern will learn about Safety requirements specific to Local Government which allows for participation giving the intern additional learning and possible certificate opportunities.



Qualifications

Candidates should be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field (ex: Human Services, Public Relations, Marketing, Social Work)  

All applicants/students must have a cumulative *GPA of a 3.0+.
