$15.00 - $30.00, Hourly

Baltimore City Council District 11 encompasses the core of Baltimore City including diverse neighborhoods like Lexington Market, Seton Hill, Upton, Poppleton, Bolton Hill, Mount Vernon, Downtown, and the Baltimore Peninsula.

The ethos of the Eleventh District is to advance neighborhood engagement and quality of life by addressing individual and communal challenges, pursuing opportunities for community transformation, and addressing systemic weaknesses and injustices through policy measures and other interventions.

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Community Aide will support District 11 councilmember in a part-time administrative capacity. The Community Aide will work up to 25 hours per week. The schedule can be somewhat flexible once rhythm and practice are established; the position can be fully remote or hybrid. There is opportunity to expand the duties to include some constituent services if the candidate is interested and capacity allows. This position is not eligible for benefits. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Community Aide will manage a highly complex and dynamic calendar and will be the first filter for incoming emails. . Responsibilities include scheduling the Councilmember’s meetings and maintaining his calendar, managing incoming email, and providing general administrative support functions. Applicants must be highly organized, proficient with Microsoft Office and PCs, and be comfortable working in a high-volume professional environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Preferred

Ideal candidates will have experience working in a fast-paced executive administrative capacity, demonstrate discernment for prioritizing needs and priorities, and have exceptional written and verbal communication skills. The Councilmember’s calendar is constantly shifting, with numerous external priority pressures, which often require rescheduling and shuffling of existing meetings. The candidate must have a sense of humor and agility to navigate rescheduling requests.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience using Microsoft Office apps, especially Outlook
  • Experience using scheduling tools like Doodle or others
  • High emotional intelligence, sound judgment, proactive vision, and exceptional diplomacy

Background Check            

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointments to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. 
 

Probation 

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month.
