Duties
Definition Of Responsibility
Under general supervision of a licensed dentist, practices dental hygiene and assists in public health dentistry programs.
Examples of Essential Duties
- Performs preliminary dental examinations of patients and records findings.
- Provides initial review of patient medical records.
- Performs prophylactic and preventive treatments prior to examination of patient by dentist.
- Sets up and closes out clinic rooms in accordance with established regulations.
- Takes radiographs and maintains dental records and charts.
- Provides oral hygiene instruction to patients on an individual basis.
- Assists in presenting oral hygiene instruction before groups.
Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Required QualificationsDental Accreditation of the American Dental Association with an associate in arts degree in dental hygiene
Plus
Two years' experience in direct dental patient care.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid license to practice dental hygiene issued by the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners is required at the time of appointment. Possession of an approved CPR certification is required at the time of appointment. Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
Proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education
Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant’s major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
Failure to submit proof of Licenses, Certifications and Education will result in your application not being considered. Proof of licenses, certifications, and/or education must be submitted with each application.
Proof of Degree Equivalency
Applicants who have obtained a degree from outside the United States of America are required to submit degree equivalence documentation from World Education Services, Inc. (www.WES.org)

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Applicants will be qualified based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as stated on their application, which includes answers to the supplemental questions. Applicants must state the dates and duties of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.
