ELECTRICIAN II

Duties

Under general supervision, performs journeyman level electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work.

Examples of Essential Duties

  • Responsible for electrical maintenance of the Baltimore County recycling facility - the facility is a critical infrastructure for Baltimore County
  • Diagnoses electrical problems and determines appropriate methods of repair
  • Estimates cost of labor and materials 
  • Determines the lay out of projects 
  • Completes projects according to blueprints, plans, or schematics
  •  Installs, tests, and replaces components of electrical circuitry and internal power distribution systems including conduit, wiring, connections, receptacles, breakers, panels, and switches 
  • Tests, repairs, and replaces or installs electrical generators, transformers, and uninterrupted power systems
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs motors, controls, and other electrical components of equipment and appliances including heating, air conditioning, pumping, and solid-state control systems  
  • Installs, tests, and repairs door bells, buzzers, fire alarm and security systems, thermostats, lighting fixtures, and communications systems
  • Lead and instruct lesser skilled workers 
  • Prepares and keeps records of time and materials used
  • Uses tools and equipment of the electrical trade  
  • Follows and ensures compliance with safety procedures and electrical codes
Examples of Other Duties 

  • Drives an automobile, light truck, or commercial-weight vehicle to transport workers, tools, or materials between job sites
  • May inspect and approve the electrical work of outside contractors performed on County facilities  
  • Must be energetic and willing to work in a high paced environment
  • Performs other related duties as required

Qualifications

Training and Experience: Possession of a Baltimore County Master General or Master Limited Electrician License or possession of a valid State-wide Master Electrician License or a Maryland Journeyperson Electrician License. (Registration as a Master Electrician in another jurisdiction within the State of Maryland, plus sufficient experience to qualify for Baltimore County reciprocity, may be substituted for the required Baltimore County or State-wide License.)
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Entry Level)
  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, and methods of the electrical trade 
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and electrical codes
  • Skill in the operation of tools and equipment used in the installation, testing, and repair of electrical circuitry and components  
  • Skill in installing and repairing electrical circuitry and electrical components 
  • Skill in reading and interpreting electrical codes, blueprints, plans, and schematics
  • Ability to diagnose and correct electrical problems  
  • Ability to follow instructions  
  • Ability to estimate and keep records of time and materials used 
  • Ability to lead and instruct others
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Full Performance)
  • Knowledge of County and departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures governing the performance of duties
  • Skill in coordinating the work of others to complete assigned tasks  
  • Skill in estimating and keeping records of time and materials used 
  • Skill in diagnosing and correcting electrical problems
Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.  Some positions may require possession of a valid driver’s license equivalent to a commercial, class B Maryland driver’s license and a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.  (License may require endorsements and/or the absence of certain restrictions.) Registration as a Master General or Master Limited Electrician in Baltimore County or Journeyperson Electrician is required at the time of appointment.

Proof of Degree Equivalency
Applicants who have obtained a degree from outside the United States of America are required to submit degree equivalence documentation from World Education Services, Inc. (www.WES.org).
