Duties
Under close supervision, performs routine professional engineering work.- Assists in the feasibility assessment, design, technical review and project management of capital environmental, water resource and stormwater engineering projects, including the drafting of plans, determination of right-of-way requirements, writing of special provisions, and preparation of construction estimates, review of consultant design plans, and grading plans.
- Assists in the operation of computers and peripheral equipment to perform GIS work and computer aided drafting and design of engineering drawings, plans, and projects.
- Assists in operating computers to conduct hydraulic/hydrologic analyses watersheds and natural waterway systems by performing technical computations and computer modeling and other engineering related studies.
- Performs field inspections and investigations of watershed/waterway restoration projects such as water quality improvement BMPs, outfall restoration, stormwater management facilities and floodplain/stream, wetland creation.
- Investigates complaints from the public regarding natural waterway systems and engineering matters.
- Assists in the preparation of engineering reports and technical studies.
Examples of Other Duties
- Provides advice, consultation, and technical assistance to the public, architects, contractors and other engineers.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineeringOR
Possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training issued by a State within the United States of America.
Preferred Qualifications
College coursework, internships and/or work experience in civil, water resources engineering, hydrology, stormwater management, storm drain design, watershed/water quality planning and/or applied environmental projects such as stormwater management design, wetland restoration and stormwater treatment Best Management Practices.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.

Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position. Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant’s major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
