Qualifications1. GRADUATION FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND/OR G.E.D.; CERTIFICATION AT HIRE AS A NATIONALLY REGISTERED PARAMEDIC AND LICENSED AS A PARAMEDIC BY THE MARYLAND STATE EMS BOARD*; A VALID COMMERCIAL CLASS B MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR'S LICENSE**; MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE PRIOR TO THE START DATE OF THE ACADEMY [JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2026].
*NOTE: The position requires candidates to be Licensed as a Paramedic by The Maryland State EMS Board. Therefore, candidates will be required to be Active in the National Paramedic Registry and obtain the Maryland License within six (6) months of hire.
**NOTE: All candidates must have a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator’s license to apply. A non-commercial Class B motor vehicle operator’s license, or the equivalent license, will be issued upon graduation from the Anne Arundel County Fire Training Academy program.
Please Note: This is a combination Fire Department. Paramedics are required to be trained and certified as Firefighters.
NOTE: This is an entry-level position; NO PRIOR FIRE SERVICE RELATED EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. You must meet the minimum qualifications for number one (1).

2. Graduation from high school; successful completion of the Anne Arundel County Fire Training Academy program; one year as a Firefighter II in the classified service of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department; certification as a nationally registered paramedic and licensed as a paramedic by the Maryland State EMS Board; and a valid non-commercial Class B motor vehicle operator’s license;
NOTE: This is a Safety Sensitive position and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and Alcohol testing.
