HVAC Technician (Peabody Facilities)

Johns Hopkins, founded in 1876, is America's first research
university and home to nine world-class academic divisions working
together as one university.



We are seeking a HVAC Technician whose primary
duty is to repair and maintain the heating, ventilation and cooling
systems for all Peabody buildings maintaining a safe and
comfortable environment. Working in partnership with outside
contractors and vendors, ensures the safe and efficient operation
of the equipment. This position also performs a variety of
additional duties in support of the maintenance operation of
Peabody which consists of 11 buildings and 6 performance halls.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities



Will operate, maintain, repair and make adjustment to all HVAC
systems on the Peabody campus to include water source heat pumps,
window air conditioners, split systems, boilers, hot water heaters,
fan coil units, cooling towers, pumps, chillers, and automatic
temperature control systems.
Works closely with outside contractors to ensure their
adherence to existing service contracts and works collaboratively
on problems.
Will diagnose, troubleshoot, repair malfunctions, provide
preventative maintenance, schedule work with outside contractors,
and maintain parts, components and materials as necessary.
Maintain inventory of various hot water, steam systems, chilled
water, domestic water replacement components, air handling unit air
filter replacement schedules, and maintenance of belts, bearings,
and electronic/pneumatic components.
Maintain and be expert in the computerized Metasys system.
Opens and closes work orders and enters them properly and
efficiently into the work order system. Keeps the appropriate
people informed of the status of the work order.
Thorough knowledge of three Leslie unit hot water heaters.
Works with the facilities and housekeeping team on snow removal
and safety.
Assists with furniture replacement for campus spaces and
maintaining the office warehouse.
Assists with routine to intermediate plumbing, carpentry and
electrical work.
Maintains all tools, equipment and inventory for the purpose of
ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
Participates in meetings, workshops, training and seminars as
assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information
required to perform the job.
Complies with all building and safety regulations and all
university policy and procedures.
Required to respond to emergency situations during or after
hours for the purpose of health and safety. Will involve occasional
overtime and weekend work.
Performs other related duties as required/assigned.





Minimum Qualifications


High School diploma or graduation equivalent.
Three years in the field experience in an HVAC service
atmosphere.
MD Driver's license with good driving record.
Additional education may substitute for required experience to
the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.





Preferred Qualifications


HVAC Journeyman’s’ license.
Air conditioning and electronics courses.
Familiarity with steam traps, pumps, pneumatic control
system.
Significant experience with HVAC, maintenance and/or
contracting work environments.

Starting Salary Range: $21.25 - $36.90 HRLY ($60,000 targeted;
Commensurate w/exp.)

Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include
documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella
vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory
testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are
ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for
those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization
documentation from their own health care providers. Any
vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost
in our Occupational Health office.
