Job Summary   
Judicial Law Clerk: Magistrate Jennifer K. Williams, in the Family Division of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City, is seeking a judicial law clerk for the 2026-2027 term. The applicant should be a recent graduate, third-year day student, or fourth-year evening student at an accredited law school, with an interest in family law.

Essential Functions
Duties include, but are not limited to, reviewing and briefing Title IV-D and domestic case files, drafting judgments and orders, legal research and writing, managing all aspects of courtroom operations, and daily interaction with litigants, attorneys and court staff. The starting date for the clerkship is mid-August 2026 (exact start date is flexible).

Minimum Qualifications
 

Education: This position requires a J.D. degree, third-year day student or fourth-year evening student at an accredited law school.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities    

  • Ability to work the full-time standard Court work schedule of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (Monday through Friday) with flexibility to accommodate any necessary early or late activities
  • Maintain a regular, punctual, and reliable level of attendance
  • Ability to set priorities, simultaneously process multiple tasks, and maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with court personnel and the public at all times
  • Ability to utilize the Odyssey Case Management System
  • Ability to make decisions based on established policies and procedures, experience, and good judgment
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative and professional working relationships with court personnel and the public
  • Ability to work independently and have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing and exercise a high degree of judgment, tact, diplomacy, and competence in dealing with judges, attorneys, court personnel, and the public.
  • Excellent telephone manners and experience dealing with the public while maintaining a calm disposition
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures and knowledge of standard office equipment use and operation.

Background Check    
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed.

Probation   
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-MONTH mandatory probation.
