Hours : 7:00a.m.-3:30p.m. (Monday-Friday to include weekends
and holidays). This position will start in Mid-May 2026 and end
in Mid-August 2026.




Reporting Relationships





Position Reports to: Facilities Manager for Maintenance
& Operations




Basic Function





Under general supervision, performs painting and general
maintenance such as plastering, drywall construction, repair and
maintenance of various structures, walls, ceilings, floors,
furniture, etc. Required to work outside jobs, such as painting of
curbs, all signs, masonry, windows, etc.




Essential Functions


Responsible for performing all painting work in accordance with
all safety procedures (including for lead paint).
Responsible for color matching, painting techniques and
refinishing.
Experience with drywall.
Ability to use and care for engraving machine.
Carry out work assignments from very general oral and/or
written information and/or instructions.
Obtains difficult to achieve colors and finishes by reference
to paint color charts or samples.
Use stains, varnishes and paints in the repair of scarred or
scratched wood and metal surfaces found on high quality interior
finishes, furnishings and trim work, blending surface colors and
contours to prevent detection of repaired areas form those adjacent
to them.
Use paintbrush, roller, or spray gun to apply paint or other
coatings to any surface, rubbing down and repainting as required to
achieve such finishes as high gloss or orange peel effect.
Mix and thin paints as required, matching color and texture of
existing paint upon surfaces to be painted, blending to prevent
detection on repaired areas.
Obtain paint and other necessary materials and tools, transport
to and from work location.
Lift by use of block and tackle or other lifting equipment,
buckets, paint, and suspending self and materials in accordance
with required safety standards, working from ladders, staffing and
bosun’s chair in reaching areas required to carry out work
assignments.
Prepare surfaces to be painted by scraping, sanding and
removing old and loose paint, dirt and grease to create a clean
bonding surface for the application of items as outside guards,
replacing them after painting.
Take necessary steps to prevent spoilage or damage to adjacent
fixtures and areas through the use of drop cloths and masking
procedures.
Thin paint as required and employ brush, roller or spray gun to
paint enclosures, machinery, duct work, interiors and exteriors of
buildings, offices, parking lots, roads and the like.
Employ stencils and lettering brushes to perform lettering upon
signs, buildings, and parking areas.
Measure, lay out and cut glass and other glazing materials,
remove old glazing compounds and installs new materials, mounting
and sealing with a variety of compounds. Caulk as required other
building seams and openings.
Mix plaster and spackling and apply properly to prevent
cracking, using trowel or other material spreading tools, using
tape, sand paper, and repeated coatings to achieve a smooth and
uniform finish.
Knowledge of effects of weather conditions on coated and
uncoated wood, metal and masonry.
Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly
condition. Remove all surplus material at the completion of each
job.
Recommend spare parts, maintain inventory and obtain parts and
equipment through proper procedures – ie. Fill out purchase
requests and get supervisory approval.
Assists in general maintenance work with colleagues.
Perform such similar, comparable, or related duties as may be
required or assigned.










Qualifications





Knowledge : High school or trade school diploma required. Valid
Maryland driver’s license required.



Experience : Minimum of 4 years’ experience at the journeyman
level.



Skills/Aptitude : Numerical ability, spatial ability, form
perception, motor coordination, finger dexterity, manual dexterity,
color discrimination.



Working Conditions : Indoor and outdoor work required. Extensive
walking throughout entire campus on a daily basis is required.
Considerable stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing. Lifts,
carries, pushes or pulls a variety of tools, materials and
equipment. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50
pounds. Manual and finger dexterity is needed to handle finger
tools and equipment. Quick and positive reaction in emergency
situations. Occasional extended work periods. Ability to climb
ladders and work at high elevations. This position has been
identified as having a potential risk for occupational exposure to
potentially infectious material; as such, this position is required
to be offered the Hepatitis B Vaccine at no cost to the employee,
and annual training on Preventing Exposure to Bloodbourne Pathogens
must be completed



Work Schedule : 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Monday – Friday. Schedule may
include evenings and weekends on an as needed, on call basis. This
position is designated as essential personnel.
