Job Description Summary
The University Health Center seeks a collaborative and experienced physician leader to serve as the Medical Director of Primary Care. This individual will provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care while offering direct oversight of the primary care department.The Medical Director of Primary Care will act as the supervisor for a multidisciplinary team of primary care providers, ensuring the delivery of compassionate and student-centered healthcare. Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Medical Services, this role is a key partner in advancing an integrated and comprehensive care model.
This is a full-time, fully in-person staff position. This position is considered essential for the purpose of campus emergencies. This position may be required to work some evenings and weekends.
Responsibilities
This position is structured to balance clinical practice with 10-20% protected time for leadership and administrative tasks
Direct Clinical Care
-Provide comprehensive primary and acute care services to students, faculty, and staff of the University of Maryland campus community.
-Maintain timely and accurate electronic medical records.
-Work closely with ancillary departments, including laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and physical therapy, to coordinate diagnostic testing, interpret results, optimize medication management, and ensure timely, comprehensive treatment plans for patients.
-Provide cross-consultation and collaboration with specialty areas such as GYN, sexual health, gender-affirming care, and psychiatry.
-Other duties as assigned
Administrative & Leadership
-Directly oversee a team of medical providers, providing mentorship, feedback, and performance evaluations.
-Contribute to peer review processes and the implementation of clinical protocols in Primary Care.
-Work closely with the Associate Director of Medical Services and the Clinic Nurse Manager to ensure operational effectiveness and high standards of care.
-Participate in committees and workgroups to develop programs that meet the evolving needs of a diverse student body.
-Deepen the commitment to integrated health by partnering with Psychiatry and Substance Use services.
-Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful work environment.
-Support a culture of evidence-based decision-making to ensure equitable care for all students.
-Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Board certification in Pediatrics (with an Adolescent Medicine focus), Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
-Supervisory Background: Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience in the supervision of medical providers.
-Experience in managing a primary care unit in an ambulatory clinical setting
-Experience practicing in a college or student health service environment.
-Demonstrated interest in Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine.
-A strong commitment to student success, with a genuine interest in supporting young adults as they navigate the healthcare system for the first time, both in clinical care and through thoughtful, inclusive leadership.
Licensure: Currently licensed as a physician in the state of Maryland. Board certification in Pediatrics (with an Adolescent Medicine focus), Family Medicine or Internal Medicine

Physical Demands:
Work is performed primarily in a clinical healthcare setting and requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting. Exposure to infectious diseases and other healthcare-related hazards is inherent in the work environment. Appropriate personal protective equipment and infection prevention protocols are utilized.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Doctorate of Medicine or Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school.
Experience: Residency training in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, or Adolescent Medicine. Two (2) years experience in practice post residency.
Other: License to practice medicine in the State of Maryland or license eligible by the agreed upon start date. Board certification required within 1 year of employment. CDS and DEA registrations required. CPR Certification required. License, registrations and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of the practice of medicine pertinent to adult medicine, family medicine, and primary care.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
Skill in the use of Electronic Health Records systems.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.
