Duties
Definition of ResponsibilityUnder general supervision, inspects the construction, repair, and alteration of structures and grounds to ensure compliance with plumbing, gas, and mechanical codes, local laws, code and regulations pertaining to the health, safety, and welfare of the community. Responsible for coordinating with other agencies inspections to resolve any conflicts.
Examples of Essential Duties
- Conducts, and participates in the inspection of plumbing, gas, and mechanical construction, repair, and alteration activities to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, and codes. Conducts, and participates in the inspection of sites for which permit applications have been submitted.
- Conducts, and participates in the investigation of complaints concerning potential plumbing code, gas codes, and mechanical code violations. Advises contractors, property owners, and the public regarding law, code, and regulation compliance measures.
- Prepares cases and testifies at hearings and various court proceedings regarding law and code enforcement matters.
- Assists the County Attorney in the prosecution of code enforcement cases.
- Maintains records of inspection activities.
- Prepares written reports.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent,

Ten years of experience in building, electrical, and/or plumbing, gas, mechanical, and erosion sediment in construction, repair, and/or maintenance. (Additional education in construction technology or engineering may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years for the required experience.)
Licenses and CertificatesPossession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
Requires registration as Master Plumber/Gas Fitter in Baltimore County or possession of a Statewide Master Plumber/Gas Fitter License.

Applicants are required to submit proof of licenses, certifications and education beyond high school to meet the required and preferred qualifications of the position.
Diplomas or transcripts must show the applicant's major field of study. Copies and unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
