Production Mechanic II - Non-Merit

Duties

  • Performs preventive and skilled diagnostic repair and maintenance work on production equipment and other equipment as required.
  • Installs, repairs, rebuilds and maintains mechanical equipment.
  • Installs, tests, and replaces electrical components.
  • Ensures that the installation and repair of equipment complies with agency policy and local codes and regulations.
  • Replaces units or parts, such as gears, bearings, and filters.
  • Tests newly-installed and pre-existing mechanical equipment.
  • Orders replacement parts for equipment.
  • Identifies and confirms time frame for completion of repairs.
  • Assists managers with planning and scheduling of maintenance projects.
  • Communicates the necessity for proper and timely maintenance of all equipment to operators and management staff.
  • Assists management staff in the training of staff in proper equipment maintenance techniques.
  • Works with management and other maintenance staff to develop and implement a preventative maintenance program for mechanical equipment and vehicles.
  • Operates county vehicles.

Qualifications

Must possess a diploma from an accredited high school or its equivalent.
Plus
at least 5 years' experience installing, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment.  

Related vocational education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to 3 years for the required experience.

Supervisory Requirements
May include responsibility for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of managed staff, interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, delegating, and directing work; evaluating performance; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 
Knowledge of electrical installation, maintenance and repair. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Licenses and Certificates 
Possession of a valid license equivalent to a non-commercial, class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
Possession of a valid driver's license meeting the requirements of Maryland law and Baltimore County Government policies.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain forklift certification.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, and maintain a Certified DOT certification.
 
Proof of Licenses and Certifications 
Proof of licenses and certifications, must be submitted with each application.
