Job Description:

This position will be responsible for managing and coordinating reentry resources, services and partnerships, and assisting Second Chance students with their reentry needs as they get close to their parole/release date and once they’ve been released. This position will also involve providing case management services to students once they are on campus. This person will work both on-campus and on-site at JCI to assist students with their reentry planning, reentry program assessments and to assist new applicants with UBalt applications and processes. This person will also work directly with students on campus by connecting them to various UBalt services and community-based services to address their various social needs.

Since the role requires both working on campus and at Jessup Correctional Institution, a criminal background check is required as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities:

• Meet weekly with incarcerated students to plan and develop reentry plans, portfolios, and assessments.
• Serve as a case worker to students released to ensure reentry plans are implemented.  Serve as an advocate and liaison between students and the various UBalt reentry resources and services.
• Network, develop, and maintain partnerships with local reentry program, resources, and services.  
• Collect, process, and document activities surrounding reentry students, program resources, assessments, and program processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Psychology or other related field/discipline.
• Experience:  One year of related experience. Able to pass a background check to enter MD DPSCS prisons.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience: 3-5 years case management experience, working inside correctional facilities, work on a college campus.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge and understanding of correctional education, university admissions, educational advising, and reentry planning.  Knowledge of community resources available to assist students, and ability to identify new resources. Ability to project a professional and positive image of the College and University.  Ability to empathize and remain non-judgmental when working with students. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs, and of a student information system, such as PeopleSoft for student and class information, degree requirement and record keeping.  Incumbent will work on campus, at JCI, and offsite to meet with various stakeholders on a regular basis, so reliable access to transportation is required.   Ability to obtain and maintain clearance at the prison.  A criminal background check is required as a condition of employment.
