Duties

Job Purpose
Under general supervision, this position develops and implements a variety of educational presentations and outreach efforts to the community as well as prepares articles for newsletters. 
  
Examples of Duties
  • Develops and provides outreach and education to caregivers of older adults and older adults caring for children
  • Identifies topics and speakers for the various events
  • Provides support and oversight to trainings
  • Writes educational newsletter articles, blogs, and social media posts on caregiving topics
  • Co-facilitates Caregiver Resource Sessions and Caregiver Network seminars at various in-person locations and virtually
  • Provides oversight to the Trualta webpage for caregiver training and authorizes access for participating caregivers
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the two annual BCDA Family Caregivers Conferences
  • Tracks participation data for educational events and accurately enters data into the Wellsky database
  • Provides backup assistance for telephone consultations and intakes for the Caregiver Support Program
  • Participates in special projects and new initiatives

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in gerontology, recreation, education, health, business administration, public administration, marketing, public relations, nursing specialty, accounting, or a social or behavioral science.

Experience providing services to older adults may be substituted on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of 4 years, for the required education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working directly with older adults, persons with disabilities, or family caregivers
  • Experience in interpreting and disseminating resource information
  • Experience creating and delivering presentations, in-person and on virtual platforms
 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of available resources for older adults and caregiving families
  • Knowledge of: Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of database operations and data entry
  • Knowledge of the proper use of a laptop and projector, and the ability to set up and troubleshoot problems
  • Skill in writing emails, business letters, articles, social media posts, and communications flyers for the public and professional audiences  
  • Skill in professional customer service over the phone and in person
  • Skill in developing presentations
  • Skill in public speaking in person and on virtual platforms
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work an occasional weekend and evening hours
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a Non-Commercial, Class C Maryland driver's license is required at the time of appointment.
