A Baltimore police officer was involved in a shooting incident on Friday evening when a loose dog attacked two women and their pet dog.
The event occurred around 7:25 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Franklin Street. According to police reports, the officer observed two dogs chasing the women before one of the dogs began to attack.
In an attempt to subdue the aggressive dog, the officer first deployed a Taser. However, the Taser was ineffective, leading the officer to draw his firearm and shoot the dog.
The injured dog subsequently died from its wounds. Animal Control personnel responded to the scene to assist the women and their pet, as well as to remove the deceased dog.
Forensics investigators were also dispatched to gather evidence related to the incident. The Baltimore Police Department’s Special Investigations Response Team has initiated an investigation into the shooting.
