Baltimore Police Establish New Traffic Team to Address Reckless Driving and Crashes

The Baltimore Police Department has officially launched a Citywide Traffic Team as part of its ongoing efforts to combat traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries throughout the city.

This specialized team will target behaviors commonly associated with severe crashes, including speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, and aggressive driving.

In addition to enforcing traffic laws, the team will also focus on addressing the misuse of Virginia license plates by Maryland residents.

Operations will be informed by data on traffic incidents and will include input from the community to ensure that resources are directed where they are most needed.

Since its inception, the traffic team has conducted over 400 traffic stops and issued nearly 370 moving violations. As of January 27, the team reported issuing 72 Repair Orders, 334 Warnings, 10 Parking citations, and one DUI arrest, while also towing 15 vehicles.

The traffic team collaborates with various city agencies, transportation planners, public health partners, and community organizations to enhance education, outreach, and long-term traffic safety initiatives.

Residents who wish to report locations of aggressive driving can contact the traffic team via email at [email protected].
