The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) is currently looking into a possible hate crime following the discovery of a note linked to a white supremacist organization in Fells Point. The incident took place on July 17, when investigators found a plastic bag containing rocks and a note on the 1600 block of Thames Street.
The note, which has been photographed, identified the Sacred White Knights, a group based in Pelham, North Carolina, and included their contact information. It also made reference to gatherings of teenagers in the area, stating, “Teen takeovers should result in teen chain gangs! Try to spit in our faces!!!”
According to BPD, surveillance footage captured a silver Jeep dropping off the bags in the vicinity, and the investigation is ongoing.
Local business employees expressed their shock and concern over the incident. One anonymous worker remarked on the extreme measures taken by the perpetrators, suggesting that their energy could be better directed towards constructive efforts. While acknowledging that the teen gatherings have caused some disturbances, he noted that they have not posed a significant problem in recent times. Police have begun implementing barricades in Fells Point to manage late-night gatherings.
Darron Waller, owner of Mahogany Makers and the only Black-owned business on the block, shared his perspective on the incident. He emphasized the importance of community awareness and vigilance, stating, “Everybody should be aware and keep a lookout for what’s going on in their community.” Waller also highlighted the role of gentrification in creating a lack of safe spaces for young people, urging for their safety against such hateful actions.
Another business owner expressed upset over the incident but chose not to comment further.
